  • The Harwood Institute announces new additions to its Board of Directors
    McGuire and
Alvarez-Rodriguez

Richard C. Harwood, president and founder of The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation, is pleased to announce that Deborah Alvarez-Rodriguez, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries of San Francisco, San Mateo, and Marin Counties, and Dr. C. Kent McGuire, Dean of Temple University's College of Education, have joined the Institute's Board of Directors.

"Kent and Deborah are two individuals for whom I have the highest regard," Harwood said. "Their broad range of expertise has already proven highly useful and I'm certain will be even more invaluable in the coming months and years."

Rich Harwood speaking at LBJ Presidential Library at UT-Dallas this week

Rich Harwood is heading to Texas this week to speak in Austin and Dallas about his book Hope Unraveled: The People's Retreat and Our Way Back.

Tuesday evening, March 14, Rich will speak at a public forum in the presidential library's atrium. The event is being co-sponsored by the library and Texas Forums, an organization that works closely with the publisher of Hope Unraveled, the Kettering Foundation, to promote public deliberation as a tool for solving public problems across the state. On Wednesday, March 15, Rich will speak at another public forum sponsored by the University of Texas at Dallas and KERA Dallas Public Radio.

    Our Values

      • We believe in the innate goodness of individuals and the possibility for change.
      • We seek for people to imagine and act for the public good so that we can all do the unfinished work of our communities and the nation.
      • Together, we must create the conditions for people to tap their potential to make a difference and join together to build a common future.
      • Our aim is to ignite a sense of possibility and hope in America.
      • We must create more advocates for public life.

      Hope Unraveled
      The People's Retreat
      and Our Way Back

The conventional wisdom driving today's politics and public life is dead wrong. We have been told that we are a nation divided along lines of red and blue, religious and secular, urban and rural. But Hope Unraveled points to a different problem.
