Rich Speaks to Hundreds of Volunteers in Sonoma
Wednesday, March 12, 2008
(The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation)Rich Harwood served as the keynote speaker for
the Sonoma County Volunteer Center's 2008
Nonprofit Conference. He talked about the
potential for Sonoma County to use its
incredible resources to become an example to
communities across the country of how to deal
with explosive growth and growing
diversity.
At the Conference he
spoke of three key ways that Sonoma and other
communities can make hope real. First,
they must recognize that hope comes from
creating change, the status quo simply won't
work. Second, they must invest in their
civic capacity, supporting boundary spanning
organizations that can connect the pockets of
good work being done throughout the
community. Finally, we must make a
fundamental choice about whether we will peddle
false hope or authentic hope.
