Make Hope Real Tour - Calgary, Canada
May 22 2009
( (Make Hope Real Tour)
)
(Calgary) On Thursday, May 21st Rich Harwood
delivered the plenary address for the more than 600 participants at
the 1st Annual Canadian
Social Forum. The Forum, sponsored by
the Canadian Council on Social Development (CCSD) brought
together leaders from across Canada and from
across sectors to address the myriad issues
connected to poverty to begin to create a
community response to tackle the full impact
of these issues on Canadian
society.
In his keynote, Rich called on
leaders to turn outward, and focus on what it
takes to Make
Hope Real for every Canadian. To make hope
real for every Canadian means being ruthlessly
strategic and making different choices. One
participant echoed this by confessing that
after 30 years of working on poverty things
weren't going to change unless he changed his
approach.
During the question and
answer session many leaders stood up to say
that Rich's talk reignited their sense that
things could be different. One leader said
"You've restored my confidence," and another
from British Columbia added: "Listening to you
is encouraging."
