Rutgers University Libraries Turn Outward

Rutgers University Libraries are leading the way among academic libraries in using The Harwood Institute's approach of "turning outward" - making communities and the people in them the reference points for taking action. Nancy Kranich, a Rutgers University special projects librarian and former president of the American Library Association, has been a key part of this effort. She describes Rutgers libraries' long-time work in this area in an article co-authored with fellow librarians Megan Lotts and Gene Springs. The promise of academic libraries: Turning outward to transform campus communities, published in College & Research Libraries News, discusses how Rutgers University Libraries started on this work in Jan. 2012 by conducting community conversations.
